The functions and duties of the Association are carried out by the Secretariat staff.
Ciaran Phelan joined the Association in 2008 as Director of Financial Services and was appointed CEO in May 2009. Ciaran is responsible for the overall operations of the Association and to enhance the public profile of the Irish Brokers Association. The Development of the life services for the Financial Services side of the Association is also a role which Ciaran has successfully undertaken.
Ciaran has over 20 years’ experience in the Financial Services industry, having previously held positions in Canada Life as Director of Broker Sales and in Vodafone as Head of indirect Sales. Ciaran holds a BA in Management.
Ciaran sits on the Board of Investor Compensation Company Limited (ICCL).
Brian McNelis joined the Irish Brokers Association as Director of General Services in April 2007. Brian has over 35 years’ experience in the General Insurance with Hibernian Group, now known as AVIVA. Brian Began his career as an underwriter and continued at various management levels in Broker sales and development. Brian’s Market and industry experience has enable him to assist IBA members and lobby on their behalf with Insurance companies on key issues that are affecting IBA members today.
Brian sits on the Central Bank’s Consultative Industry Panel and the board of the PSAB-GI.
Susan Naughton joined the Irish Brokers Association in January 2013 to look after the Compliance Support Initiative. Susan has over 30 year experience in the insurance industry, underwriting with RSA (formerly Sun Alliance & London plc) both in Dublin and London and most recently looking after Education Training & Development with Cunningham Lindsey Ireland. In addition to ACII qualification, Susan holds a Diploma In Management and Employee Relations (NCI) and a Certificate in Training & Development (DIT). Susan is now working towards Professional Diploma in Compliance.
Susan has taken on the role in the IBA as head of Compliance Support Initiative, launched in January 2012. She assists IBA members with compliance queries in relation to all legislation; contribute to monthly e-zine’s and weekly compliance circulars and IBA regional meetings. Susan welcomes all calls or emails on compliance or other related issues that concern IBA members.
Susan has successfully completed the Professional Diploma in Compliance awarded by UCD.
Hazel Rock joined the Irish Brokers Association in April 2007 having also completed an MSc in Strategic Management Following her MSc, Hazel travelled around Australia and New Zealand before settling in the Irish Brokers Association. Hazel is responsible for liaising with members and partners of the association and communication externally to members of the public about the benefits of going through a Broker. Hazel answers member’s queries on a daily basis and organises all IBA events including Regional meetings, training programmes and the main Broker events of the year, IBA Annual Lunch, Annual Conference, MyIBA Broker awards and LPI Broker Awards. Hazel also sits on the MyIBA committee which aims to ensure that staff within Broker offices develop in their role and within the industry.
In 2012 Hazel completed a diploma in digital marketing and is qualified as an APA in Commercial Insurance.
Patrick joined the Irish Brokers Association in 2008 having previously worked as an accounts assistant with Statoil (now known as Topaz). Patrick has completed the IATI (Institute of Accounting Technicans) exams and has a BA qualification in Accounting and Finance from Dublin Business School. Patrick is responsible for the finance department of the Irish Brokers Association. In addition to his role, Patrick also negotiates favourable deals for members on various affinity schemes and is responsible for all IT support within the Association.
Patrick is currently studying for his QFA qualification.
Amy joined IBA in February 2016 as the office Administrator following her completion of Masters in Human Resource Management from National College of Ireland. Amy is responsible for General Office management and administration and deals with daily queries from Broker members and consumers. Amy also assists in event management for IBA meetings and is responsible for the MyCPD.ie system for members in terms of monitoring access to the facility.
Niamh joined the Communication and Marketing team of the IBA in August 2015. Her current role within the Association includes electronic and print communication to members including website, circulars, video and social media content as well as assisting with the coordination of IBA events. Niamh is a graduate from the Dublin Institute of Technology where she obtained a hDip in Marketing and Business Management and has over 28 years professional experience working in senior marketing roles within the Travel industry and ICT/Technoloy sectors.
