We are delighted that AVIVA will be joining us to deliver a presentation to brokers at each of the regional meetings during the week.  This will provide brokers with an opportunity to listen, discuss and ask questions on general insurance related issues with key personnel from AVIVA.

Another area that will be discussed at the regional will be GDPR. With affect from 25 May 2018 the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) apply to all members of Brokers Ireland, without exception. There are many new requirements that make firms more accountable and require greater levels of transparency. This will require careful analysis and mapping of data held and or passed on to others by the broker firm. Other requirements such as reporting breaches on a mandatory basis, responding to data access requests and minimising data collected and retained  will pose challenges to firms.  ’New data rules mean it can’t be ‘business as usual’ – Helen Dixon, Data Protection Commissioner

Preparation to comply with this EU regulation should commence immediately. The presentation at the Regional Meetings will address fundamental issues that firms must take into account such as privacy notices, consent, individuals rights, information held, gap analysis and data mapping.   Other issues such as developing new procedures and training to address the new requirements of GDPR will also feature in the presentation.
